Pitbull Gets Featured Again In Alberta Venture

It's not clear whether Sami Hayek, the owner of Pitbull Energy Services, is a student of the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi or not. But he’s certainly taking a page out of the great man’s book in the way he’s running his upstart energy services company.

“Be the change you wish to see,” Gandhi said, and that’s what Hayek is doing. While his company is a small, Hayek runs Pitbull like a much larger firm. He’s made significant and very deliberate investments in his company’s branding, its image and its employee retention strategies that are unusual – indeed, almost unheard of – for a company of his size in the oilfield services sector.

Take the business cards the company sprang for, which are made from uber-premium cardstock and which have won it both praise and attention from customers, or the annual trip – all expenses paid – that he gives to his employees. For a large company these would be minor details, the usual costs of doing business. For one of Pitbull’s size, though, they’re unusually decadant extravagances. But therein lies the rub, because Pitbull doesn’t plan to remain small for much longer. In a sector that tends to focus on the next job or the next client, it’s thinking ahead – well ahead.
